San Diego Chargers head coach Norv Turner addresses the New England media during his conference call on September 12, 2007. Q: You got off to a nice start to your third head coaching career. NT: It was a nice start. It was a very, very physical game. We certainly played a good Chicago Bears team. They don't look like they've dropped off at all - In fact, they're probably better than they were a year ago when they were in the Super Bowl. It was a very physical game and obviously close-fought. We were fortunate in the second half to make the plays we needed to make to win the game. Q: There are so many guys in this business, as you know, who never get to be a head coach and if they get there once it's difficult to get it twice. But you've got it a rare third time. How do you view it and do you feel like a very lucky man for what you have right now? NT: Certainly there are two things you look at when you get in this position: You're appreciative of the opportunity, but certainly I understand the responsibility that goes with the job. I've been fortunate to put together a very good staff, a combination of guys who were here last year and guys we were able to hire. I think we have a very complete staff and I believe we have a complete football team. There's a number of very, very good football teams in this league and we're preparing to play one of them this week. Q: Is this the best team you've taken over, potentially? It is what it is now, but down the road does it have a chance to be... NT: Yeah, it's a team that won 14 games last year. When I went to Washington in '94 the team had won I think four the year before, and (it was) a very similar case it Oakland. The team had won four games. There's a totally different mentality when you start with a team that you know is a total start-over-at-the-bottom type situation, as compared to taking over a team that was in the playoffs the year before. Q: You weren't there last year, but you certainly know the situa...
