While the signal proper taken a little summer break we decided to fill the gap lots of extra duties partly because we don't want to leave our listeners with a nifty feed. And partly because occasionally. We like to do something a little bit different a little bit special shining. Well today's show certainly both we've got together some special guests from the tyranny in the sought by TV podcast in from the week in -- podcast along with a couple folks from the signal. And we put them all together in a big cross podcast crew checked the subject of witches. Doctor morals sing along block the signal as I'm sure you all -- is a podcast all about the TV series firefly in the movie serenity. We're not a generic Joss Wheaton podcast where specifically focused on firefly so who would ordinarily be able to devote much time to doctor horrible. Except possibly covered in broadway's one week. But this is a bonus shoves the normal rules don't apply and that's why we were able to get together such a fun group of people who spent time talking about such -- top. " I don't I don't mind starting I ask. I downloaded the first episode I was very excited whenever you come -- now obviously doing. -- sort of the lack of Sweden material there for awhile that made me kind of edgy and I started watching the first episode in May be the first. Three minutes two minutes when when the doctor is doing his blog and haven't sorted. One on one dialogue with with -- listener that I was. I was not excited. If you didn't start off in a way that that I expected until I got that built up a great deal. Come into the of course this and they launching the first musical number that all changed and it was just awesome pass that -- it was very odd for me to see something. From Johnson and the reaction that I did in the first two minutes of course that was in retrospect when -- when I've -- homework and go back it was very unfounded."

" I -- and when you definitely when you get back and watch it again you can you have. It's nothing like that first impression I don't know what the Al chaired that as well but that first couple's 2 July. OK eight. I -- and then it turned into and you know musical wonderful men and street John affection."

" when I first -- this serious -- you didn't -- following completion -- skilled and really excited about new media and the -- I got so excited. That they were going to be eight. You know big name Hollywood does just between doing something online and I got I got really excited that he does the first episode intimidate I didn't have that reaction I didn't I didn't want to protect the military consists of I was just smiling. You know -- here don't -- that I was watching. A big name guy in Hollywood making something new media. That I could go purchased follow later on on iTunes and then and support because I'm just so sick and immediate so. When the musical numbers hit. I didn't even really. Honestly expect -- I knew it was a sing along blog but I just didn't know that it was going to be such musical number so just economic data kind of it was really enjoyable experience let's estimate."

" Yeah actually. When I heard about it I had I was relatively new to the Wheaton world. And so I was just excited that there was something that I would be able pew."

" At the same time that -- on how can they can do. Higher fly -- I can the vaccine rain delay so it was kind of exciting. You I guess it part of the beginning. And I -- I can't publicly about the music you like it I didn't know what to expect it was a single a -- one of the pool at this look like and so when there. That's so cool and it opened I was. I was excited to see where this is going and then the need to -- really I was excited about that I was just very cool it was. A lot of people say that musical iiroc and strange because -- eight. It -- they get a break into song at random times and it doesn't fit. And I didn't feel that way about doctor horrible at all I felt like it it really well with the flow and it hit the music. What part of the story. Well it it was integrated into the story well oh yeah I was just I thought it was cool neat idea."

" I think a lot of us you know knowing and having our -- jaws because I certainly remember seeing. That their tourist. Dep which is difficult because so many people try to watch early on -- and -- doing very much hey you know help okay. What -- did so I mean I I. I should I enjoyed it but I also knew that I didn't have a grasp quite yet to be three different parts distributed network I kind of had an accomplice okay I'm gonna have to wait probably kind of digest it a little more. When it seems more conceded its entirety I did. A very much enjoyed that I was caught off guard and I have no idea what was going -- Just like most of the work there's going to be challenged by which Arkansas."

" And I -- my expectations of him -- his work are so high now that. But not being hit with something really big right up front. Through me and it was a good experience for me to have where I didn't leaving the gate ticket -- my -- greatest thing about Christine. An experience that I got some of the other shows that he did where it started off slower and got more more excited and more more intuitive by the end -- the congress."

" I think that's probably one of the reasons why he's so it's so appealing for help -- that -- it's not something that we really ever see. And that I hate to -- these two really good at and of course he has. Close relatives that are also very very talented and it it's it's all about the lyrics for Hank and again and I think it's head is. Ability he did get actors to do essentially whatever he wants them to dale and I think he's. Very talented -- expressing his vision and getting people to. If you can't be able to perform. In -- and create his."

" Veterans. Who think -- there's probably a lot of or at least a number of other. Folks in the industry event at our. As passionate about musicals that shot it and they just don't have. -- environment that he does meaning -- a strong fan base and by the time but he's he's fixated. He had -- this strong enough fan base that -- and magic he felt relatively confident that I really can't salute them. -- didn't let him make that leap. And it didn't didn't let itself weld into the Internet -- to where he's got a very strong fan base and it worked slandering animals that look at any piece of -- throw that out. So there's got to be get a degree of confidence that comes with that to say you know I'm gonna do something that other people in this industry they just can't along -- they're not. -- a position where they're willing to take the risk to do and it allows them to do. There's this wonderful stuff and he's he knows -- lightning doesn't strike twice he's clearly. He and his his entourage of people that are assisting him didn't hurt very talented and it couldn't help put in both cases is exceptional."

" I think it might also. I'm a little bit from the whole -- ideas that you know he's he's he's an artist you create what you have passion for one of the mind that he's. From the the Buffy one -- feeling he talks about how. You know he would. Some people over the counter parties and they always get together and start singing and doing musical bits and and he really took some talent there and up my whole deal with the idea. And I think that -- it's really of the reasons that he was. Could get he has what is that would Johnson musical I think it's more of you know he enjoyed doing them at all -- fashion that was fun for him his personal life any problems what better thing to do my job. Then what I'd love to do in my life. So there must have been so let's."

To do this synergy of how well it gets to me is just really something that I it back and our. Certainly -- Having signal once more feeling -- but then coming to deduct a horrible. It on multiple -- rigs when you can dissect the lyrics a little more -- more -- it -- but it doesn't -- the moment realizing that it was forced."

" I'm kind of thrilled with the fact that. -- actor obviously you're doing all they aren't singing and it's down it's very genuine and there's not this hyped up operatic. State that that they talent -- I mean when you are listening to them sing their song you're listening to is that the character. Things they're learning I mean it's it's -- it's Mary. I like he added that fully integrated."

" I try to -- sabbatical. And it makes filling in line so much more communicating his city. Well he pretty much nailed that character."

" Apple look at things in speaking -- of the ways you know that's the music just floated perfectly with help part of the story I mean I've I don't know if you want to switch that the -- Talk about the musical commentary -- that was just brilliant. I mean how they were able to and say that's because the MDC and commentary and the back and forth banter while feel about it was just. Just blew me away at this point that over and over just."

" It is almost as good. Played entertaining fashion chain as watching C -- original and work. I think it's probably equally entertaining battle I mean America certainly part of it that or maybe you you don't surpassed. And entertainment value. And as you listen to it diet several more times than it's really get a good feel for the lyrics and that is exactly what that -- and Terry is. It yes truly entertaining moments."

" I'd love to know how they came up he's kept the idea. Of doing a musical commentary just we thought we'd seen need to be I don't of creativity now we're gonna do it as a commentary it's locked."

" I in -- all manner of things kind of grown up until after the summit that had affected the writers' strike went on that in their -- that maybe wasn't enough to. You keep this group of talented people occupy whereas they might have otherwise since they had an opportunity to say you know instead of during the regular old. Commentary that we do training ill -- dvd that we put out 10 we sit back and take couple days to make this something special. So I think that that writer's strike may have given them the time to do this sort of thing. It has now may -- set precedent and I can raise the bar on the sort of stuff I would love to see. More of that type of thing not just from China Sweden -- the -- from anybody has to take the time to make make this stuff really compelling and have to be. Extra features. Even come close to the original work is. It is unheard of and into the first time I've ever seen anything that climate system didn't release symbol on it sounds. A little side of the dvd."

" The songs from the actual doctor horrible and I'm I didn't. You know I feel equally about them I love them both but I can totally see like somebody would put would enjoy -- the commentary more."

In music -- you know that I can't you know people I do love it make people look into it as you know like -- you know I can't elaborate now."

You know Lucille Ball kind of like see how -- the godmother if you will new media one of the television. And Conchita almost fully two days appearing in a lot of these these shows and chief. Really. Spokesperson if you will for immediate feel like -- Lucille Ball per day in my mind and and I. I cannot get enough hopefully today in her appearance. In this. Show I'm her -- in the show it was one of the things that really drew me to what I mean on the top ten -- was -- probably feeding went into the -- today without my oh my god I got to see the."

Could not just put too distraught to enjoy her work but I think that it it's sort of brought these two groups together in this. It snowballed into something else too and there's a lot of people paying attention now to this group PM -- beyond I mean this is this is big stuff."

Could purchase that she's supporting them and -- bolt brawl sold on dvd as well to get more. Content behind the scenes features or whatever and still supporting the -- of them doing so. It's nice to see all these different avenues so that -- can still enjoyment I know the season three of the guilt. -- got an arrangement tickets might with Microsoft's sponsorship so that it's coming out like you to do a little earlier your Xbox subscriber but there. But later to just a general Internet so again -- different players -- different distribution method and partly."

" And it's a great business model for suckers like myself who will -- it note on I think it's. And the dvd and -- you know it's a bit of print version nine approaches that -- to your bleeding you for everything making it. And happy about it yeah we're at that. --"

He and you know have this very limited production cost. He has the benefit they're they're making money each. And did they put out this incredibly high quality product that we were talking about earlier with the quality of the production. Yeah and that data alone to me and great. Slap in the face. " Well it's it's -- to -- you did some networks and providers are gonna start react -- slowly they're larger and style but I know. Well on the street side IQB podcast we talk a little bit now I think it can be -- even doing some exclusive online content like comedy. Show called control. It's got to Erica directly national TV shows but its original content being only streamed online. Well by NBC it's a bit of attached so it is it's certainly leveling the playing field a bit for those of us don't feel we got together -- traditional methods which I think it's exciting it's Texas we all know being podcasters. Did a lot of the creative people up here that we see nor heard on podcasts are not blogs running Celtics thing. She would be -- that person had a platform to speak provide. I'd buy their contact -- and I'd be glad or Kevin to pay -- twice because I know the money's going more directly to them. At some studio."

" And I think we're gonna look back a few years from now."

" And it is important events that have happened in new media and I think that the release."

" Doctor horrible is going to be. And -- very important isn't historically -- For lot of mediated that this committee not yet even concede. Or delivery methods that haven't been nailed down yet I think that this is really. --"

It is a little bit of a hard sell it I must admit -- is great little lead you to people to watch but sure you know it is very entertain you but get someone to sit down to watch doctor horrible just see their reaction that -- about certain goods. We -- exactly -- artist in the first few minutes maybe but it it's always entertaining to watch. Them try to kick its -- and see what's going on what it's it's quite fun to try to spread the word like."

And I've -- a lot of my friends and family over the years about John Sweden's dolphins and trying to get them to to watch on the community and for the people that I was pushing and on they would be. I'm likely to like it and loved it eventually but it's very difficult to get somebody to sit down and take on an entire season of television and in that way doctor horrible has been sort of a gateway drug into the Sweden versus. And then if somebody can spend 45 minutes. How much anybody can just to kind of watch something and they can -- wound it really has something to this guy in his works. So again now channel watch that fired plant used to people shut up about or outlook to kind of watch -- NN what is. Done for me has given me a really great cool. -- Sharing this this. Large body portion of the very passionate about the larger group because we give them a sort of a concentrated waited to get their feet left."
