Title: Patriots season preview with Paul Perillo

" I brilliant. It is football weekly's -- yes it's coming it's coming next week with -- art fled perished with the shirt on but maybe one button too many I always yes always uncomfortably. You know what that's where we've come to expect I think all the viewers to understand what that is. -- you sought Bill Belichick get pretty emotional. When Tedy Bruschi retired I think I'm really shocked I had mentioned on Monday when it happened that. His father died and he came to the podium after that game that he coached and they're really was no hint of emotion now I'm sure behind the scenes you've probably pretty upset. But then to see him yesterday who is Bruschi. --"

" Yet you know and we talked about this and has been some pretty important players that have coming gone from Foxboro and some -- which I like Troy Brown. Recently. And I never saw really -- of the kind of emotion he showed on on Monday and even you know he was emotional I thought when talking about his dad. But this was a -- you know a player's retirement you know clearly it is a connection between you know -- son and father. This was a player and a coach. But you saw just how important relationship was to -- and I thought it was a powerful. You know. Process I don't blame I keep isn't -- don't why don't mean that red and you know that it wasn't genuine to I think it was so I don't that's not the right word but it was really powerful the watch and and to be honest with you. To be in that room I thought. While the whole thing was going on I was I was proud to be in the run was I was pretty cool things."

" Yeah I mean I was so one of those moments are gonna look back on you look at this decade in this run that this team had -- You're gonna remember that moment I think there's no question now -- retirement and Mike Vrabel getting traded away in the offseason. They get younger all and I know that's sort of the gold you have to want to go younger right yeah I and that works for him but does it work for a football team is this the right thing to do why they'd better now linebacker than they work a few months ago."

" That's the question -- definitely younger but are they better I think it was the right thing to do whether they're better or not I think this was the right thing to do. I think they need to enough that they would be forced ten Yelp he didn't. I think that Teddy came to that conclusion on his arm but. They needed to sort of get an infusion of of depth in terms of athleticism speed. And some play making ability where all the playmakers that that we remember Willie McGinest Rodney Harrison Tedy Bruschi and Mike Vrabel. -- with these guys are slowly but surely been chipped away at it now we're left with a core of young guys that hopefully can evolve into those -- I think. About Catholics of this season Mike we're gonna see a pretty good defense of -- and I think it's gonna take some time you're looking at as many. It's -- five new starters on defense and you have last year boost he's gone Harrison's gone. Labels gone you know this possibility complaint form and line and you adding a defensive -- didn't start last year so. This going to be a transition period there but you could definitely look at new quarterbacks that we haven't even talked about and so. I think there's going to be some struggles early but I think it could be a very very good defense by season's."

" You guys in the fourth three and obviously Belichick is preferred the three for August it allows and a lot more things in terms of when you press -- the less predictable that way but when you look at what they have at linebacker -- which now gets then got a little bit more versus what they have. Upfront and with some the progress to see some of the younger players make up front. And almost seems like the fourth three is the right way to go at least in the short term."

" Yeah I would totally agree with that I think that we as media guys kind of overblown missiles 3443. -- I don't think it's as big -- deal to appeal as it is to us you know we talk about it but I do recognize the fact that bills seized. A little bit of -- depth problem at linebacker is playing to the strengths of this team which right now unquestionably on defense is up front. You know when you deal with Seymour Warren and Wilfork and Mike right in. -- on a couple of young guys that have been promising Ron brace and Myron Pryor absolutely Jarvis Green if he's still around you know if he sticks around I think that. That's the area where you wanna make sure you accentuate and I think to have for those guys in the field now. The patriots play so many different schemes and somebody that we've seen all summer -- pre season games might there's been a variety of personal. Packages that they've used it. First out it's this second -- three guys out three guys in third down. Three other guys out -- so. I don't I wouldn't get married to any specific that's what it's like they're sitting in a fourth well first off second not third it's not gonna happen much like it wasn't that way went -- for bill's -- who -- game -- he always does and he's -- utilize -- probably upwards of 151820. Players on defense debt which is still don't they've done in the past like have more guys if you count on. Definitively so that the roles aren't so now public Banta-Cain comes on the field. He's going up the federal property -- about that's a perfect example he has a specialist almost and you know he talked about it to change of course training camp has been an exact. Pretty much the way he was when he left you know he's a guy that we think can get after the quarterback a little bit. Why -- him to drop in coverage and play the Mike Vrabel Willie McGinest you know Roman -- kinda roll worries to want all the different things that an outside linebacker does New England. Now he gets after the -- let's just ask -- to do that if he can do that on on passing situations on third downs you know in obvious passing downs. That's an asset and he's going after the quarterback pretty -- summer we'll see you know if he can translate that's the regular season is a big difference there but. I do think that -- was gonna use a lot of these different guys Derrick Burgess is still trying to figure out. -- always wanted to lab rats he did but at this point you're saying I haven't quite seen it yet but. To his credit very you know he's only been here for a few weeks so it's it's not like just that it -- right what exactly and I think that they'll still trying to figure out exactly how to use them. And it was certainly looks like he's gonna be playing. As it down guys so that's open about the fourth three you -- you could certainly look edits are well they have four guys down up front but. Maybe purchase is one of those four guys he's more comfortable playing was in on the ground whereas. When Adalius Thomas and Mike Vrabel wear that fourth guy they were -- the more accustomed to standing up. Well there was probably this information but it looked a little bit different so I'm not you know I was not monitoring as much as everybody else I'm trying not to get too caught up and I just to talk about the -- run through the body she sort of hedged on Jarvis Green Tavis has decent. Payday coming to him this year. Is he on the bubble well yet. I think she is but I think that the events of the last couple of days of sort of lessons might feeling I did have him as my quote unquote surprise veteran cotton and -- it. Everybody they scoff at these kinds of things. The reason that we -- surprise cuts is because we really don't think it's gonna happen if you asked me to like pick Jarvis means going to get cut. The answer is no I don't think he has -- just looking at him as a possible guy that's a couple of young guys draft picks bracing prior and I talked about. Dell Richard is kind of been working on a little bit in there it is not promised that those young guys. And have a -- on select -- of his contract -- pretty hefty cap hit in a lot of them salary seek and save some money there. It's probably not going to be a party team next year. That's the time to go that's why -- hedge my bets on on Jarvis I think he's been terrific player for this team. He's one of my favorite guys in the locker -- personally. He's a great editor a lot of people I would agree yeah well -- offensive line is a group you know I can't get enough of them all of them warrant Wilfork Seymour I -- talking to those guys -- certainly falls in that category might right. They're a budget really really solid guys. I don't think he's going to get cut but I do think there's a possibility and the numbers a little bit hot for the production last series real patriot football weekly not always a pleasure and we will see you.
