" Those figures don't necessarily tell the whole story in this year alone for a new low cost -- here's. Have started flying in and out of Logan international passport CEO Tom kitten is here with more on these figures -- Telus. The story of what they don't mean Tom welcome thank you for being here. Thank you Peter thank you Mike -- have good to have you here and we'll get to all this stuff later when I ask you something that's been in the news right off the top of the program here and that is this possibility of changing the name of Logan Airport we saw that the state legislator introduced a bill to call Kennedy Logan. And -- so of course for Senator Ted Kennedy do you think that should happen."

" Well I I don't think that's for a Massport to say I think the legislatures -- figure that out I do think that the senator deserves. Huge honor his name it was wonderful to the stage he did great things from mass was pulled from the -- port side in the airport side. So certainly would ever directional legislate to Texas would not be that a supporter."

" So if they say we wanna do you support it absolutely. Smart he -- you know Susan church -- I think it's helped. From -- percent and this talk a little about the numbers which you know sort of -- show this trend that we've seen of fewer flights Fuller planes. But at the same time you know as we mentioned we just -- southwest come to Boston on the heels of three other. Look Oscar's what's for the big picture as he would explain it of what's happening at Logan when their trial."

" I think I think the airlines first of all Boston's a great mark. It's always -- a strong market from a business standpoint in -- unique leisure standpoint that has not changed with the industry here high tech Biotech. The hybrid system hospitals. Just to name a few. And a wonderful sense of history here in the cape in the islands in the mountains and so -- sorts of wonderful wonderful destination. To come to in the airlines know that. So what I think is going on here is this setting the table and getting ready for this recession which is bottoming in in stunning to go in the other direction. And they want a presence in Boston who want a piece of this market so what we've seen. During a recession for a new airlines coming Logan. Which is unprecedented. In good times let alone. A down economy so what were extremely pleased you mentioned oneself west. But with good virgin America. Sun country. Yes so Weston and Porter is stunning service next week. Great and southwest has just said on the heels of that service to Baltimore Washington and Chicago midway adding a couple flights to Saint Louis. As a new thing. Are you able to see where -- hope so -- next analog well you know I I'd. We were all surprised that the recent announcement no you know two weeks after this does service sorority announcing new service so again we think that speaks highly of the market was I think that speaks highly of southwest interest in this market. And in -- never hear from a lot of our customers does this hope that the gonna pick off a couple Florida markets. -- hope they may pick up some midwest markets or for the west like Las Vegas or Phoenix as much so let's also get those ATA gates at LaGuardia in New York I think we can ever dream of a southwest shuttle to New -- the -- less expensive than delta and US. Well one of the things -- learned in this business there's never say never so anything is possible there is a sort of you know re setting of the pictures if you will with regard to both the U Washington market in the New York market with the recent US it was adult slot exchange so. I think both of those airlines of positioning themselves to strengthen their market share respectively in the New York area adult in you listen it was in the Washington market."

" You listed vehicle lower cost carriers that are coming recently and down time do you see any more coming in in the near future -- these -- and this force your town."

" Now I I think -- you know we've seen our are good news for the time being. But you know not only jetBlue. I think what what jetBlue did is they changed the the image of Logan if you will to a high cost -- To a low cost carrier. Were low cost carrier could succeed it train came in right behind them what was and they really. Ahead of jetBlue and so. JetBlue really set the table. And now the airlines have seen that. Boston. Will support a low cost carrier the market responded. -- these other airlines wanna."

" Piece of it and what's gonna happen in the competition between jetBlue and southwest as far as the consumer. Ends up because we know that the the southwest. Union's been saying you know fly southwest and that sort of thing jetBlue doesn't have a union that that sort of wrinkle is that part of this. Yeah it's it's very interest."

" What's going on I mean. JetBlue through the gauntlet down on day one and ends and announced that going to Baltimore they don't even play Baltimore at JFK which is their main airport for service. So they threw the gauntlet down early on too so questions and we'll have a one PO market. As as a signal don't tread on us in Boston the consumer wins. Clearly I mean yes two days ago would triple was having nineteen dollar if there's the Baltimore. If this continues and may be paying customers to go to ball to pick it."

" Eight other airport -- who care about what's here which is had a setback with the scheduled air service. What's your sense of what what's it gonna take to get and really keep permanently scheduled air service and what's the let I think it's it's gonna take."

" You know the economy to rebound in a way beyond certainly where it is today the airline industry is changed significantly. We're still wasn't very good airport pre 9/11 after 9/11. The them the airline industry changed dramatically. And it's continuing to change the trying to survive in a very tough environment to cutting costs fuel costs and so forth wasn't too long ago war. Oil it was a 140 -- about all. So I think over the long term Worcester is is a good play and we'll have some service. But in the meantime we're gonna have to struggle to get try to service we had to have direct -- there. Flying twice a week to Florida markets and recently done to Myrtle Beach and its the public is responding very well service it was."

" It's a switch gears a little bit we have a big mega transportation agency merger coming up Massachusetts and of -- one. You know. These agencies better than anybody after thirty years in this business. We think it's gonna take to really make this turnpike mass highway. MBTA merger work. Well I I think it's."

" First of all I think the governor and the legislature. Really get their arms around this and then put. Something in place that is gonna work with the -- the -- Mass highway. In a piece of Massport -- not -- not part of it although the toll bridges transferring over to. The new DOT. And I think I think they did what they had to do given the cost of what it takes to run a transportation facility in an old city. In terms of the investment for us to go back into your highways and bridges and tunnels as -- transit system and rail. And I think they've done. Very positive thing and merging these together. And I think it's just gonna take you know very good management and strong management to run the system I'm going forward for the benefit of the traveling public."

" the guy can actually get away with that joke I've got a bridge -- Some kids in the head of -- thanks for being here we appreciate you were combined good luck in the fall with everything that happens at Logan thank you again Mike and thank you Peter."
