" Whether it's a traditional -- in jail or -- daily special from the cafeteria chances are your kids school lines. Could be healthier. Natural health care practitioner mark caller here now with and that's good to see you good to see you can. -- before we get to some of those tips let's talk about this new billion dollars at the Obama administration is. Allocating to school lunch nutrition right. Well this month congress is dealing with a child nutrition act so it's becoming more of a focused and as you point out. The present administration really wants to emphasize the importance of improving. School nutrition by dedicating a billion dollars to the point. -- so what does that mean what's that money going to do great question that money is supposed to go towards. More fruits and vegetables that you might imagine but also toward cookware. Steamers and things this nature because. They're actually trying to encourage. Local school markets to to get involved in their own preparations so. A lot of these different districts are being encouraged by the USDA. To actually get more involved in local preparations and that makes it more healthy and repackage their hopes of course is that they're gonna steamed vegetables. They're going to make soups with less salt. And foods with less sugar it set this up to clean up the fat salt sugar is really with the main focus so how do you make. School lunches healthier. I think we've you know we've got some ideas I think one of the things here is that the government really does hope that parents get more involved. In that each local district really takes up the issue and focuses on like we said more. Locally caught in and smoke locally prepared foods that have less that's not -- we've given some ideas. They're also trying to encourage parents to do more packaging and sending those kids as well to school with a -- once the real focus is getting those kids healthier. So what kinds of foods I mean people have got to be all the last -- pizzas. Last night we've we've got some things that we point that I think you know things like I'm. If you think about peanut butter and jelly for example you know you can improve upon that by just basically making peanut butter and banana -- of whole grain breads and you could you could use for example whole wheat wraps with Turkey sandwiches. I -- is three point catalog you can encourage the preparation of homemade -- of less -- like carrots hoops for example. Which are delicious or even in a homemade chicken soups and things this nature much healthier quality -- high sodium. Suits that they have. Unfortunately in a lot of school lunch programs nowadays and things like grilled chicken instead of fried chicken grilled chicken of course you know on greens and maybe let the kids have some of their favorite dressing on and just. You know basically make sure that they're getting a low fat dressing not a whole lot of heavy -- dressing but again greens and and as you point out not five been grilled chicken as well. -- we're also talking about like -- soaring. You know not -- and stuff like that aren't those things difficult to find again you know they're really not as a matter of fact there there -- more of the -- now there's more of like -- missed -- Stop & -- that carries some of these things -- certainly the health food -- are loaded with them. Really easy to find the -- important thing here is kids try some of these soy cream cheeses and some of these chocolate soy nut butters. At which -- like a chocolate peanut butter and may find that they're really really pretty delicious so. It's an easy transition that you keep in mind that. The facts in a lot of these dairy products like the cream cheeses are markedly lessons like soy cream cheese and they taste equally as good. In the case subpoena but a lot of people don't know that peanut butter technically is an inflammatory food. And soy is an anti inflammatory foods that's a great trade off. Lower fat Laurent inflammatory responses are healthier foods for kids and maybe the kids are introduced through school and like it'll tell their parents united at home -- there -- actually right. And it's catching on I mean there are districts are there's more awareness more nutritional whereas they're trying a lot of things working really well some greens and I thank you so much pleasure thank you for more information on healthy school lunches and a whole lot of other topics featured check out -- website its -- healing dot com."
