" Good works -- TCI dear amber a weekly conversation about people in need and what you can do about it."
" I didn't walk across the studio. -- I would. I get outside at practice. Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick announced massive budget and job cuts last week. But the question directly impacted by the cuts you might not realize just how deep they run. To sanity hearing president of Catholic Charities for the Archdiocese of Boston is here with a closer look this morning good morning -- feel good morning Wesley. So how did adopt can now was it worse or better than expected. I think it kind of the --"
" Is that how you look at for his service decide which I'd look at a lot. You know we were sort anchored to it could be as bad as 300 million it was about eighty million in cuts so from that perspective I guess it could have been worse. I sound very vulnerable populations took real hits though folks like the homeless teen. Parents homeless parents elders families receiving special assistance so you know from that perspective. Though the vulnerable to -- hit here so what happens -- well you know. A couple of things first. Australia 52 million dollars house costs 277. Of those cuts for the governor just has the authorization to make under this nine -- thing we've talked about. So those are -- However the governor also is looking for permission to make another 75 million dollars -- cuts. But he's gonna have to get special authorization pork that's in the legislature that just judiciary. County sheriff's department he has to get special permission to do that. And there's 35 million dollars in layoffs and job cuts for state workers. And that's gonna have huge impact on state services and -- still workers who lot of work are we gonna become increasingly dependent on other programs -- Let's take a specific look at. How this affects homeless people in the shelters yes -- areas that we are really concerned about its. There's about three million dollar cut to homeless shelters. That will likely play out -- in reduced sort of reimbursement rates are per night rates and that can cut shelter capacity further. We're already at a shelter capacity crisis the states got more than a thousand families living in hotels because there's shelter space where. If you worry about before you'll have one now. Mean we just went into homelessness so from that perspective this is a very big deal and I know there's another set of cuts that -- alarming. If you -- that I think really hits the vulnerable what is there's this program called T. I have to look at I was gonna run to it -- DC transitional assistance for families with dependent children. And it was what it says it is but there's some families would -- that qualifies for special kind of Social Security because they're disabled and can't work. And the kids get the TA FDC. And if these changes if the family gets the Social Security one. It's an AFDC one gets cut as a result you can have people who are gonna essentially lose. Half or more of their family income fairly quickly. So. How will this play out and and how quickly. Will -- some of you know we're we're experiencing the cuts to our doctor health program for example the school will go into effect November 15. So some of these things are gonna happen very quickly this is targeted to start going into effect. Basically immediately. Over time I think you're gonna see is certainly an amnesty program closings may see some non profits smaller nonprofits close. You know cities -- towns were left largely untouched here so you're not gonna see big changes in local later in cities and towns. But the folks who are really vulnerable and in vulnerable programs are just gonna fall off. The edge here and we are really very worried about that nonprofits will step up they'll be -- as much as they can do to try to do more and catch more of those people has been following. But you know they've been they've been -- as well I think anything we gotta keep an eye on -- sometimes spending less now while actually cost more later. Somebody loses adult -- might have -- nursing homes and results -- more expensive so we need to keep that. Sorry TC and a daring at Catholic Charities thanks so much for being here thanks for having."
