" Uncertainty love joy or tragedy and one group is encouraging men to share these stories and now they have the good men project a new book and a documentary. There's a little bit of the movie."

" Sometimes -- the states but to us I'm standing on the beach and their weeks bothering me and waves of advertisements for junk Ed Gordon. Profiles of people who've never done anything except payments. A politician's mouth and platitudes but sometimes I feel like I can take just one picture lets you grab onto something that's really this room."

" That says the Pulitzer prize winning photographer Michael camber now with the New York Times and his is just one of the many stories in the good man project a book that really tries to take a snapshot. Of what it means to be a man in America today. And joining us this morning is the project's founder Tom matte black and one of the co editors of the book Larry being. Well and Tom good to have you here and so from Australia -- thank -- much Tom let's start with you about what we're trying to get that what was the purpose of this book and and in documentary."

" Well I'm. We kind of think that men at this point are at a turning point. And and many of us are really asking what's important when -- here I'll work on wall Streeter is. Laid off the GM plant warrior like Michael Hammer covering the war on Iraq. Or even if you're. A former mayor -- thing. What it means me man what it means you could follow it means to be a good husband remains to be good worker or means being good song. Our issues that we think there are really important so it's sort of this foundation. Which really has four parts of the book that the documentary films -- above. It has. Of the website and good non profit -- Oregon has -- events we had a huge. Premiere last my negotiate or little horse. If 500 people there and just a great great time."

" It's a wonderful venue. What did you find out Larry I mean did you -- find out that men know what it's like or what it means to be a man in this country or they're all sorts of concepts about that. I think so I think one of the things with the book is that he's just the variety of stories that are in it when I was little -- read ability is wells accessibility. Once you have stores are very compelling as well as stories that would reach a broad range of people. What surprised he really was I think the honesty that a lot of these men brought this stories that they mean they're willing to really kind of -- their souls and and that. Makes for really compelling reason. Let's look at a little bit more of two men talking about what it means to be caregivers take a look."

" quality apartment. Us department. Who -- and then could you can bet your life events over the closet you open."

" And then the social services. Hannibal the."

" You know I don't look at it. President human life to. No question you're trying to do great things. And his children. Best he can."

" A little bit more from the good men project and gentlemen I'm wondering what you think -- and I I I this I heard this man talk about what he feels he has to do every day. But there -- a lot of young man in our country who are adrift and don't know what there role is in don't know what it is to be a man. And I'm wondering if you saw that whether this book would be good for them."

" In fact I'm in the book when things those listing was my satisfied with -- generals -- And shared the book with famine and he was -- premiere last night actually one of his friends. And it was surprising to me is that the book obviously deals with them some difficult issues war. Divorce. Death. But those are issues that -- thirteen year old -- on our country. My son's trying to grapple with and you know for the first time I was really able to have. Now a very deep conversation about what it means to be. A soldier in Iraq and he kind of had this idea that he wanted to to join the army because he thought it was you know going to be by Jason Bourne. And if you watched units short clip of Michael camber you get a real sense that it's something different and we are able to have a a much more. Much deeper conversation. In fact. Our foundation I'm all the royalties go to Boys and Girls Club America and big Brothers big sisters amongst others. And so they were there last night some of the big and little -- their last night. Some of the members of Boys and Girls Club I'm and so we think there's a connection between addressing this this conversation amongst men. And then also hoping. Boys to -- borrowers at risk who don't have mentors don't have fathers in many cases. I'm and that's why. All all -- from the book and dvd -- to foundation to help those kids."

" Well there's certainly a worthy project and Tom matte black -- very being thank you so much for being here over the book once again is the good man project real stories from the front lines of manhood. Is out November 15 so it'll be out soon along. With the movie and for more information on both you can go to the website that Tom mentioned earlier it is good men -- god of war. "
