As a contentious mayoral race gets underway, some activists wonder if black Boston is losing its political power. Some people say the activism in the black community that was prevalent in the 1970 and '80s is gone, which could mean Boston's blacks are losing their "political potency." The Massachsuetts Republican Party goes to court Friday morning to stop Paul Kirk Jr. from becoming the next senator from Massachusetts. Republicans argue that the law allowing the governor to appoint an interim senator doesn't go into effect until December, because the Legislature did not declare an emergency situation.
